Dietary therapy for chronic prostatitis and the physiological function of the foreskin
What are some dietary therapy methods for chronic prostatitis?
For patients with chronic prostatitis, the following dietary therapy methods can be selected as appropriate, in addition to appropriate medication.
(1) Stewed black-boned chicken with chestnuts: Wash the black-boned chicken, cut it into pieces, put it in a pot with chestnut kernels, salt and ginger, add an appropriate amount of water and steam until cooked. Eat it in 2 to 3 servings.

Is foreskin useful?
Patients often come to the clinic requesting circumcision because they feel the foreskin is useless, that their foreskin is too long, or for cosmetic reasons. In fact, the foreskin, as a component of the male external genitalia, has important physiological functions. The medical community has been conducting research on the functions of the foreskin, and with in-depth research, our understanding of these functions has been updated. Currently, the medical community generally recognizes the following functions of the foreskin.
First, the foreskin covers the glans penis, providing protection. Normally, the foreskin and glans penis fit together well, effectively covering and protecting the glans. The moist environment between the foreskin and glans contains lysozyme, which can kill harmful microorganisms, thus preventing urinary tract infections.
Secondly, because the foreskin covers the glans penis, it can reduce and distribute the stimulation to the glans during sexual intercourse, thereby delaying ejaculation and preventing premature ejaculation. The edge of the foreskin is rich in mechanoreceptors, while the glans penis is rich in free nerve endings; the complex interaction between the two is essential for normal sexual behavior.
Secondly, the foreskin plays a lubricating role during sexual intercourse. The foreskin's structure is quite delicate, allowing it to slide freely, a feature unmatched by any other organ. On the inner surface of the foreskin and the surface of the glans penis is a layer of mucous membrane tissue. Tiny protrusions of this mucous membrane continuously grow towards the surface, eventually undergoing fatty degeneration. The degenerated tissue sheds, forming smegma. Smegma acts like a lubricant; its physiological function is to keep the foreskin cavity moist, increasing smoothness and pleasure during sexual intercourse. Clearly, without this lubricating function of the foreskin, excessive friction during intercourse would cause discomfort for both partners, negatively impacting the quality of their sexual experience.
Therefore, when paying attention to phimosis, one must not ignore the normal physiological function of the foreskin. If there is no indication for surgery, one should never rashly remove the foreskin.
